Highlights from 2007:

Petersburg, VA 2007 -  "Some of the best competition you'll see all year....and that includes the nationals."   That was a quote from the manager of a participating team in the 2007 Beast of the East.  At every level of competition, there were tough teams ready to make a run at the championship.
ABS/Easton proved to be the best team in the tournament with a run through the Platinum playoffs and  a Finals victory over Sons of The Legion.

In the Gold Division, Shorb's/Trivent Financial/DM Painting went undefeated in the playoffs to take the hardware.  They beat 4U/Absolute Bail Bonds of Chesapeake, Virginia in the Gold Championship.   It was the Richmond East Moose team from Mechanicsville that made a run through the Silver division taking down the defending champions Diamondbacks of Thurmont, Maryland.

The only snag of the weekend came at the very end.  Octane and RTD were in the 3rd inning of the "if" game of the Bronze championship when a thunderstorm rolled through and put a stop to everything.  Both teams were declared co-champions and will share in the prizes as well as the travel fund.

All in all, it was a great tournament and a great weekend for softball.   In addition to some pretty hot temperatures all weekend, we also saw two thunderstorms rumble through along with a fog bank that caused some minor delays.   You'll find some stats and final standings on each page for each division.  Click there to go to your respective division.  We'll add some pictures later.

Here are some stats we came up with:
102: Final Total Number of Teams.
392:  Total number of games played
1:  Dislocated Thumb
1:  Knott on the side of someone's head.
7: Home Runs by Home Run Derby Champion Nick Clary
1: Autograph signed by HR Derby Runner-up Stacy Mizell
16: Total number of fields used each day.
72: HR Derby Softballs that mysteriously disappeared into the parking lot Friday night.
6: Approximately number of ejections throughout the weekend.
33: Steaks served to umpires on Monday.
1: Around the Horn Triple play turned on Tom Midgett. (This is per Stacy Mizell)
17: Minutes on Sunday morning that  it took umpire Mike Newcomb to get over Chuck Liddell's knockout loss to Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.
1:48:  Time it took Rampage Jackson to put Chuck Liddell to sleep.
59: Highest Number of runs scored in a game: Game one of the Platinum Finals; 30-29 in favor of Sons of the Legion.
5:  Lowest number of runs scored;  Power Alley over Monro Muffler: 3-2.
1: Shutout:  Power Alley again:  10-0 over Famous Dave's/Knocks.
3: Days it took me to get this information on the website following the tournament.
