SoftballNation has two ranking systems. The state ranking system which is posted below and the National Power Rankings which are posted on www.sportsnation.org . The rankings on this page will be used to seed teams for the State Championship tournaments. The National Power Rankings are for comparison purposes and that system considers a team's total tournament performance regardless of association. Teams that are members of the SoftballNation should be sure to use the power ranking system at www.sportsnation.org and input your data after each tournament.

In The Mid-Atlantic Region we will use a points based ranking system to rank teams. While there is no absolute method to determine the rankings of softball teams, this system rewards teams for their performances in tournament play and it rewards them for their participation with SoftballNation in the Mid-Atlantic.

Ranking Procedures: Teams will be ranked based on their performance in tournaments in Virginia. These rankings will be used to seed teams for State Championship Play. If teams from outside Virginia participate in Virginia tournaments and finish high enough to earn points, they will be included in Virginia rankings.

Points Distribution: Points are awarded based on a basic formula. Teams are awarded points based on their finish in the tournament and the number of teams in that tournament. It is generally presumed that larger tournaments are more difficult to win and therefore deserve more weight in distributing points. The points are distributed as follows:

State Championship Tournaments:
Participation Points for the State Championship tournaments will be 25 points.

1st Place Finish:	4 points multiplied by the number of teams in the tournament
2nd Place Finish:	3 points multiplied by the number of teams in the tournament
3rd Place Finish:	2 points multiplied by the number of teams in the tournament
4th Place Finish:	1 point multiplied by the number of teams in the tournament
Participation Points:	5 Points for participating. 25 Points for participating in a State Championship.

What The Rankings Mean:
Rankings will continue through the completion of the Slow Pitch Nationals scheduled for September in Virginia Beach, Va.
State Championship Tournaments will carry double points.

Re-Classified Teams: If a team has participated in a particular division and is re-classified during the season, that team's points may be transferred as follows:
    **If a team is re-classified to a higher division, their points will transfer at a 50% rate: example: Team A has 100 points in Silver, they become 50 points in Gold.
    **If a team is re-classified to a lower division, their points will transfer equally.
